playing in the dark

Since the daylight hours are so short lately, Vin has become interested in the dark - I think it holds some sort of fascination for him, but still spooks him out. I figured we should take advantage of the dark and turn it into a little sensory sparkly playtime.

I collected together some shiny and metallic bits and bobs - most of them are Christmas bits and kitchen stuff - put them all in a foil tray and turned off the lights. I left the fairy lights on so the kids weren't too freaked out, and gave them both a torch

We got to use lots of new words to explain reflection and shadows as well as explain what we could see

and experiment with bouncing the light around

The kids loved this (I'm sure it has something to do with the popularity of the torch) Vin and I have re-played it again all weekend. I'm hoping to get my hands on some glowsticks to do some more exploring!
